TEAR GAS – A Safe Weapon

In TEAR GAS – A Safe Weapon, the collective what about: fuego meets the audience to reflect together on safety: What leads to a safe society? What does safety mean? The stage space becomes a control centre. The performers use their bodies, their breath, their voices and their experiences to collectively tell stories. They juxtapose different definitions and positions of security. Using live video and live sound, they work through the emergence and legalisation of tear gas, which led to its current worldwide use as a police tool. Why is tear gas considered “safe” or even “peaceful”? Who or what is being protected by the state?

A co-production with Berliner Ringtheater, with the premiere on 11th April 2024.

Financed by: Einstiegsförderung from the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion of the State of Berlin, Stiftung Niedersachsen and from Fonds Darstellende Künste from funds of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
