Kriegsrahmen

Kriegsrahmen is a scenic research that explores how media stage images of social conflict and war. On a stage with reduced scenic elements, a performer’s body, her voice, lighting, and a soundscape stage iconic photographs of human suffering. The images themselves are not seen on stage, but rather are brought forth through theatrical means on stage. Each image corresponds to an event between the years 1989 and 2021 – from the year of the performer’s birth to the present day.
Using elements of documentary and performative theater, a theatrical space is created that opens up time and space for viewers to intensely engage with images of suffering. We propose the exercise of viewing and remembering images as an ethical act that prompts reflection on who we are as we contemplate the suffering of others.

“Kriegsrahmen” premiered online in May 2021. In 2022, the piece was shown again digitally at the Santiago OFF Festival in January and finally offline for the first time in Hanover at Best Off Niedersachsen and Quartier Theater in April. This was followed by performances at Körber Studio in Hamburg in May 2022 and at the Festival Politik im Freien Theater in Frankfurt am Main in October 2022. This year we were able to show “Kriegsrahmen” at the Performing Arts Festival at TD Berlin.
